The beauty world includes so many options and services these days that it’s hard to keep up. If you’re someone that isn’t completely happy with your brows, I’d like to help! Let me give you a breakdown of some of the most popular services and products that are available in Canada to get/keep your eyebrows looking on fleek and fabulous.
Makeup
Our first line of defence for coverage and shape. Options include powder, gel, pens, pencils, and more. Available from drugstores and higher-end makeup stores (and even Amazon), these can be decent temporary and short-term solutions. However, the costs do start to add up, and I’m not just talking about money. Doing your brows with makeup can become a huge time sink and it’s definitely not impervious to the wacky weather we get in the Ottawa region.

Waxing/Threading/Tweezing
Have hair but need a better shape? Whether you’d like to see a professional (waxing or threading) or DIY (tweezing), sometimes all someone needs is some hair removal and a great brow shape. When waxing/threading your eyebrows, upkeep generally requires you get them done approximately every 4 weeks.
Approximate Pricing: $13.00 - $40.00
Tinting
Need a shorter-term solution with some longevity, without making a serious long-term commitment? Eyebrow tinting is more about enhancing your natural brows. It will also cover small gaps or patches for the first few days, but mainly it will help to darken the hair you already have. Eyebrow tinting typically lasts for four to six weeks.

Henna Brows
Need brows, but have commitment issues? You’ve heard about henna tattoos, but what about henna brows? Henna brows stain your brows and skin to create a fuller brow look (which ends up looking similar to makeup). Typically lasts 4-6 weeks.

Supplements for Brow Hair Growth
If you’re looking for a more natural and/or lower maintenance route to eyebrow perfection, you can use supplements like biotin, BioSil, collagen, and/or castor oil to encourage hair growth. Please consult with your doctor before considering these options to ensure they’re a good fit for you. This is a long-term investment and it will take months to see significant change.

Serums/Conditioners for Brow Hair Growth
Want more hair? Most brow serums are designed to improve the thickness of brow hairs and, depending on the formula, can sometimes improve growth. The downside? It could take 3-6 months to notice any difference, and costs can run high.

Microblading
Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo that mimics natural brow hairs, created using a manual microblading tool, which is what makes the result look so natural. It’s suitable for individuals with normal, dry, or combination skin but not extremely oily skin. Microblading is my favourite of all of these options, and my specialty! Typically lasts 12-18+ months. Powder/Ombre brows
Microblading not an option? Powder brows may be the best route for you! It’s a suitable alternative for clients whose skin is too oily to qualify for microblading, and/or for individuals that don’t necessarily want a natural look. It’s a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo that has the look of makeup powder on the brows, created using a tattoo gun. Typically lasts 12-36 months.

Combo brows
Combo brows can be a solution for those with sparse hair, bringing together techniques from microblading and powder brows. For this process, strokes are usually drawn around the edges where they’ll be the most visible and then powered shading is added to the body of the brow. Typically lasts 12-24 months. Do Nothing
Okay I know that this suggestion almost sounds like a joke, but it’s legit. Brow trends come and go, and if you can get unapologetically comfortable in your own skin (and hair!), it’s seriously fantastic. It will also save you some time and money…
